I trust you’re all keeping well, we’ve just released a dataset that we think will be of interest to the group. We have decided to replicate a basic version of previous years NPTDR data, the NPTDR database historically contained a snapshot of every public transport journey in Great Britain for a selected week in October each year. After October 2011, it was decided to no longer renew this dataset as it has been replaced by the Traveline National Data Set (TNDS). This is transport data available for each Traveline Region and made available as TransXchange XML files. Our clients have had issues loading these large datasets into Accession, due to the stops (NAPTAN) data only being available nationally and each region covering a large area - sometimes requiring thousands of files to be checked against the online schema.

From client feedback, Basemap have reproduced a limited version of the NPTDR. This will be a copy of the raw TNDS data relying on the checks done by each Traveline region, this contains mainly bus information, but in some areas there are additional datasets - such as London where Tube, Ferry, Cable Car and Tram are included.

The rail data will be sourced directly from the association of train operating companies (ATOC); this will then be converted into a CIF file. No checks will be made against the data; it will be assumed the timetables are correct.

Basemap will then split both datasets into smaller areas, with the data being provided as one CIF file per travel mode per area - this will also contain the relevant NAPTAN stops in the file footer enabling only one file to be imported per area, per mode.

We will provide a feed of the National Coach data, this however will not currently be split up into smaller areas, but will be available as a complete CIF file (with stops included).

Access to this data will be provided through an FTP subscription service, with updates given every 3 months from launch July 2013, these will be done to reflect a weeks’ worth of data on the following dates: -

• 2nd Week of January
• 2nd Week of April
• 2nd Week of July
• 2nd Week of October (Original NPTDR date)

The annual subscription cost per company/FTP access account will be: -

• £250 + VAT for access to all data.
• £200 + VAT for access to the bus data only.
• £100 + VAT for access to the rail data only.

If you think this dataset would be of interest to you, please feel free to get in contact.
