I have carried out a Local Accessibility calculation for the evening period to compare how this differs to the daytime/peak period. During this time the bus network is reduced somewhat, but most service in the town I am looking at operate after 7pm with an hourly or half hourly frequency. One corridor has two services along it, each operating 2-hourly so combined they offer an hourly frequency. The Accession output though has not included this corridor within the Local Accessibility calculation, (in this case the frequency was set to 1 bus per hour) is there any way that Accession can understand that some hourly frequencies are made up of 2 services combined - similarly I have had this problem with a corridor with a half-hourly service which is made up of two services with an hourly frequency combining to offer a half-hourly service.

I would like to be able to calculate 350m access to a 30 minute bus service for a number of towns but am unable to use Accession to do this at the moment due to this problem. The only way round this I have found is to add in additional services into one of the timetables to force Accession to recognise there are 1 or 2 buses per hour along a road.

Any thoughts on this?

Rowley,

So can you confirm if they both appear under the same service? OR are they two separate services? If they are two separate services then it will not show, I know this is annoying but this is the way it was chosen by the DFT when the software was first released. It is something that has been mentioned to have a combination of all services that stop at a bus stop. Though we need to have confirmation from the DFT before this can be looked at being changed. I will put it on my action list to discuss,

Dan

They are two separate services (separate CIF files but calling at the exact same stops for the vast majority of the route), so I guess that it won't work. I think this is very important, especially for an area like Staffs where bus frequencies are generally lower, so often the only way to achieve an hourly or half-hourly frequency on a road for example is through a combination of services.

I'm not too sure whether Accession takes a count of the total number of scheduled calls made by all bus services at each bus stop, and then divides this by the total number of hours in the time period. To get round this, I've put the ATCO-CIF file into an Access database (using a program routine commissioned by myself and written by our IT Business Systems department). I've then set the query up to count the total number of scheduled calls at each bus stop, and then select only those bus stops which satisfy certain criteria, for example all bus stops having a total of 3 calls 0600-0900, 3 calls 0900-1200, 3 calls 1200-1500, 3 calls 1500-1800. I then identify the bus stops as separate destinations with xy points, and then use the road network in Accession to work a network accessibility calculation.
