Hi All,

In exporting a contour as a shape file, I've noticed that the subsequent contours that I export default to the first contour created. I have followed the " Exporting a Map layer to a shape file" guide posted on this forum ensuring that I select the correct contour but to no avail.

Any ideas on how to overcome this gratefully received.

Have you been creating different contours for the same results or is it different results?

I'm creating different contours for different results.

Destiny,

Have you been selecting the different results on the query page?

Hi

I get the same problem. The query nearly always defaults to the first contour created. I have two ways of getting round it.

Sometimes closing the project and compacting it and then reopening does seem to reset it.

Otherwise I take a copy of the respository and delete each result after exporting the contour. By deleting the first result it then defaults to the next one etc, allowing all the contours to be exported. This is time consuming so I'd like to know if there is a better way.

The other thing that can be done is to delete the map layers after it has been created. So go Map and Data Tools - Delete Map Layer - this will then allow the next contour to be exported.

I also got this problem as well. To ge round it, I took a different appraoch and had a Mapinfo utility created that allows the user to extract data from any results and draw the contours in Mapinfo. I have also had a further utility created that allows the user to calculate statistics for each contour band. Effectively you can calculate any number of threshold calculations in one go.

Happy to discuss further if anybody is interested.

Thanks
John

John,

Can you explain in more detail, does this Map Info application get the data direct from the Access database?

Hi,

A couple of comments:

1. The utility John mentions above extracts the origin-destination times/distances from the results table in the Access database, then uses these to generate the isochrones in MapInfo using concentric buffers - nowhere near as clever as Accession's interpolation method, but reasonably effective, particularly if you use PT stops as your origin points.

2. I've also had the problem described at the start of this thread - exported shapefiles all seem to default to the same contour set. But I've never managed to make the same thing happen again when I've tried - all I can think is that it's a product of carelessmess on my part, exacerbated by the sort order of the Accession pick lists (some in time order, some reverse time order and some alphabetical). I've also fixed the problem by shutting down then restarting Accession, but that might just have forced me to take a break, clear my head and make the right selections the next time.

Hope these comments are useful - I use Accession regularly for my work and find it a very good tool, with just a few occasional niggles on the "workflow" front.

Dave.

Hi all

The one thing I would suggest when exporting the shape files from Accession is when creating the queries make sure you go through the motions (ie select from drop down list) of selecting the options (even if the default is the option required). I've found that this removes the problem of generating the same contours for different results...

The other thing you may want to do, is actually ignore the contours and relate your results to an origin point (addresspoint) through exporting your results from the Access database and then doing some minor trickery in GIS (nearest neighbour)...

Cheers,
Keith

I too am having issues with exporting contours from Accession, i have produced three set of results, the first two manage to export without issue. The third however keeps reverting back to the drivetime contour. I have tried deleting the old map layers and also changing the name but none of this has worked. Did anyone find a definative way to do this?

Another workaround, you can go into the Access DB and delete all the records in the Contour table apart from the contour you require. However if you want to revert to any of your older contours you will need to re-create them in Accession.
