I've been asked to do some work to explain why results for NI 176 as calculated in the 2008 core national accessibility indicators have decreased. I was wondering how Accession handes short journeys and whether it compares walking time with travelling time by public transport for such journeys and how it allocates the calculated journey time to either public transport or walking modes.

Para 3.4 in the 2008 core national accessibility indicators states the changes in the calculation methodology which have taken place : 'One anomaly that affected the 2005 and 2007 indicators was that many short journeys by public transport were being shown of less than 10 mins, when in practice many people would walk the distance rather than wait for a bus. For example an OA centroid 5 mins walk from a destination might show up as a five minute journey time whilst an OA further away with a 10 minute walk time to the destination might show up as a 1 minute bus journey. In practice, the bus journey could never be made in 1 minute'.

Any guidance on this would be appreciated,
Jonno1.

Short distance trips - basically the simple answer is that if it isquicker to walk to the destination than use PT then this is what willhappen.

Unfortunately with your question, if the origin is nextto a bus stop and then it will use the bus to do a 1 minute bus journeyas this is the quickest option. This however is representative of beingable to get to the destination within x minutes. I am not sure what youmean by saying this 1 minute journey could never be made? Can youexplain further?
