I have recently noticed that the travel times/distances for short journeys i.e. not using PT when comparing the outputs for walk and public transport (including walk) both through a network vary when they should be consistent.

The only way I can make them consistent is to select the 'straight line' option, rather than 'through network' in the public transport options.

Why should this be the case?

I suspect this could be due to your connection distances (from first node - origin - the next node). If you are using a road network as your walk links, its tricky getting the right settings. My suggestion would be use other GIS for walk only accessibility (you can get add on programs for MapInfo for example)...

Check though for walk calcs distance over time should give your default walk speed ...

Eddie,

How are they different? Also do you select increase road accuracy when using the road network? How much are the differences in the results?

The parameters used are exactly the same for both calculations. The travel times for short journeys i.e. those that would not utilise a PT service vary subtly. This is annoying when presenting results as they should be the same irrespective of mode, where walk is included.

As I mention, I can get around this by selecting the 'straight line' option in the walk/public transport calculation.

Eddie,

Can you upload two of your results to be compared? To confirm if you select walk only it takes longer or shorter than using PT and Walking? I have an idea what the problem might be,

Dan
