Basemap Core is a new desktop geographical analysis application that was created with simplicity in mind. Core is an intuitive system designed to enhance the user experience by utilising the latest Microsoft® Technology to provide an environment that you will be familiar with. The intuitive functions mean that previous experience of mapping software isn't required to utilise the many features of Basemap Core. It allows you to quickly access the wealth of geographic mapping layers and your own spatial data. Basemap Core is designed to carry out most standard mapping functions, including: · Opening and viewing of different mapping file formats - including GML, ESRI, and MapInfo. Specifically designed to load the standard Ordnance Survey Open Data now available to download and use without restriction. This provides copyright free mapping of some very detailed UK maps. · Loading and analysis of your own or other third party geographical based data. Allows you to create points in geographical space from text file, database or spreadsheets - just need to have postcode or coordinates for each of the points you wish to load. · A simple styling, layout, and publishing tool to allow you to add your own text, logos, and legends to create high resolution image files for presentations or printing. · Colour shading and transparency to show different data trends e.g. hotspot analysis of responses from a marketing campaign. · Labelling and viewing of attribute data associated with different geographical layers. · Creation and saving of new geographical layers - create your own point, line, or polygon data. · Create sub selections of layers and save to new layer. · Measurements of area or length. · Merge multiple layers into one layer e.g. different road types. · Standard map navigation tools including pan, zoom, previous view. · Project tool to allow you to save a group of layers so that they can be opened again quickly at a later date. · Fully administered online forum to allow you to discuss your different projects and experiences with other users or members of the Basemap mapping team. We will also help you to understand other data layers that could be of use to your organisation and how to obtain them. The software is currently in the beta stage and we are welcoming comments regarding the stability of the software and suggestions on areas that need to be improved.
